April 4: Strategizing for the Blessing

"He went to his father and said, "My father." "Yes, my son," he answered. "Who is it?" Jacob said to his father, "I am Esau your firstborn. I have done as you told me. Please sit up and eat some of my game, so that you may give me your blessing."Isaac asked his son, "How did you find it so quickly, my son?" "The Lord your God gave me success," he replied. Jacob went close to his father Isaac, who touched him and said, "The voice is the voice of Jacob, but the hands are the hands of Esau."He did not recognize him, for his hands were hairy like those of his brother Esau; so he proceeded to bless him." (Genesis 27:18-22)

A strategy is a plan, method, or series of maneuvers  for obtaining a specific goal or result. In our text today, Jacob had because of his hunger and value for the blessing, develop a strategy to obtain it. His plan succeeded. He planned and executed it because he was desperate and hungry. He didn't want to do without the blessing.

Desperation and pursuit are the major qualifications for promotion in the kingdom of God. It is those that are poor in spirit, those that hunger and thirst, that will be blessed according to Jesus. Your level of desire and hunger for a kingdom benefit is a measure of your value for it. Hungry and desperate people always caught the attention of Jesus while He was here on the earth and they still do now that He's at the Father's right hand. It is for this reason that stories like that of the whom with the issue of blood who defied laws banning her from appearing publicly and pressed through a crowd just to touch the hem of Jesus' garment. Or the story of the paralyzed man whose friends broke the roof to get to Jesus. Or blind Bartimaeus who screamed at the top of his voice to get Jesus' attention and ran to him tearing of his beggar's garb. How about the short man Zaccheus who climbed a tree just to see Jesus.

Spiritual hunger displayed shows the level of value. In our text today, even though Jacob was cheating his brother out of the blessing, his high value for the blessing shines through the story. He schemed for the blessing because he desperately wanted it. God honored that. Like the paralytic man and his friends, though breaking down the roof of a house was not lawful, yet Jesus did not rebuke them. God also allowed the blessing to be transferred to Jacob despite his wrong actions.

You must also become so desperate for the presence and blessing of God, that you go the extraordinary step to secure its manifestation in your life. Plan for it. Be on the lookout for it. Deliberately get into the presence of the blessed. Put some thought to it. Don't wait for it to accidentally drop on your life but proactively pursue it. Go after it on purpose. Plan for it in your schedule. Strategize for it. Seek counsel on what you can do to secure it. Read about it. Then execute you plans. Plan how you can bless the blessed people around you consistently and how you can get to be in their company.  Those  who strategize for the blessing and carry out their plans by faith in God will be ready for it when it's released. It will be a consistent flow in their lives. God will honor your value of His blessing  demonstrated by your pursuit.

Decision of the Day

I value the influence and the blessing of God over my life so I will pursue it. I will strategize for it. God will honor my pursuit.
